History

AmnesiaGames was founded in 2006 by Alejandro Woywood and students from his course “Game Creation” of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile.

In the beginning, games were made for mobile phones using J2ME, SMS and WML technologies. Back then we decided to make games in a work-for-hire basis, making games and apps for clients such as Nokia, advertising agencies, mobile operators and othe rbig clients, securing a regular income that allowed the company to grow safe and steadily.

AmnesiaGames' big break came in 2010, when we won a regional contest by Nokia. Since then we started making our own games and publishing them ourselves.

We also created and managed the mobile portal of ENTEL PCS and CLARO from 2007 to 2012, supporting 20 million pageviews monthly. That's a completely different line of business, but was a great challenge and fun.

Nowadays we create games and apps.

Competence

AmnesiaGames strong point is our ability to make multiplatform 2D games. We have created games for almost all mobile platforms, but currently we're focused on iOS, Android, Windows Phone, Flash, HTML5, PC, Mac and portable consoles like the Sony PS Vita.

AmnesiaGames developed a multiplatform engine that allows to target multiple platforms with the same code base. This means that the game development process ends with a compatible version for 6 to 8 platforms in the same time that another single platform engine makes only 1 version. We also can develop native in all platforms. We also use Unity for some of our projects.

We've made about 26 games. Most of them are public in the Games section of this website. Others are confidential because of NDA agreements (made for hire).

  • 2013: Our game "31 minutos" was on top of the rankings for several months and was highlighted by Apple in Latin America.
  • 2013: Ninja Joe was AMAZON's Free App of the Day on 9-april-2013. Also was in the Featured Apps and Games section that month.
    - MICROSOFT: Spotlight in Windows8 store on 16-june-2013 and several times in the WindowsPhone stores in LatAm.
    - LENOVO UK: Spotlight in its Windows8 store in april 2013.
    - SAMSUNG APPS SPAIN: Free app of the day on 14-july-2013.
  • 2012: Ninja Joe (its third incarnation) is the first Chilean game for Windows8.
  • 2006, 2007, 2010, 2011, 2012 Our CEO Alejandro is named Nokia Developer Champion a recognition and reward program for top mobile developers worldwide.
  • 2011 November: Ninja Joe first XNA game developed in Chile for Windows Phone 7.5
  • 2011 May: Amnesia is one the main speakers at Nokia Developers Day Chile.
  • 2011 June: Ninja Joe is the most downloaded game in Nokia Store in Indonesia and top 10 in Egypt, Vietnam, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Iraq and others.
  • 2010 October: Amnesia wins the first Paintball competition against their partner MZZO. After that everyone enjoyed a great barbecue, patagonia style.
  • 2010 October: Amnesia is one of the speakers of “Nokia Ovi Expedition II” in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
  • 2010 August: Amnesia is one of the speakers of “Nokia Developer Day” in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
  • 2010 August: Amnesia participates of the panel “The impact of the mobile revolution” in the E-Commerce Day Santiago.
  • 2010 July: Our CEO was chosen as one of the “40 successful youngs” by Diario Financiero. Some say the title should include “handsome”. Other disagree.
  • 2010: Our J2ME game "Ninja Joe" is a winner in the contest CallingAllInnovators - LatinAmerican version in early 2010. It was downloaded more than 1.400.000 times.   • 2010: Amnesia is one of the founding members of the Chilean Association of game developers. In fact, our CEO becomes its first president.
  • 2009/2010: Amnesia develops the first Chilean Shooting range simulator for the Chilean Army.
  • 2009: Amnesia wins the bid for the creation and operation of the mobile portal of CLARO (main chilean telco).
  • 2008/2009 Amnesia is granted a Seed Capital by CORFO, the Chilean innovation foster agency.
  • 2008 October: Amnesia’s CEO is interviewed by national TV channel 13.
  • 2008: The joint venture Amnesia-MZZO wins the bid for creation and operation of the mobile portal of ENTEL (main chilean telco).
  • December 2006: Amnesia wins the contest VTRemprende with the “Interactive TV game” prototype. Contest organized by VTR and innovation center 3ie from Santa Maria University.
  • August 2006: Our first licensed game: LOST for national Channel 13. Playable via SMS, MMS and WAP. Average 10 paid messages per user.
  • July 2006: our first game for J2ME phones! Poncho Balon, features 5 exciting levels, playable with just one button, great MIDI music and several screen resolutions (128x128, 128x160, …)
  • February 2006: Amnesia releases the first interactive story game in Chile playable by SMS, MMS, WAP and voice: Musichotel. 1 million paid messages and 200.000 players.

We open to any proposal: creating a new game based on your specs, customizing an existing game or porting it to new platforms, release a new version of one of our games for a special occasion or market, etc. Just write us.

Keep in mind our core advantages: we develop multiplatform games (iOS, Android, Windows Phone, Windows8, Mac, Facebook, Web, etc), we have access to a talented pool of developers and artists (alliances with universities and strong ties with the local game dev community) and we're good listeners. We know we have a lot to learn, especially in marketing our games. That's why we're looking for a good publisher.
